Stainless Steel Cat Bowl Best Practices

Give Each Cat Their Own Stainless Steel Bowl for Food

Cats instinctively eat and hunt alone in the wild, so sharing food bowls can create stress and competition even among friendly cats. If you have multiple cats, give each cat their own stainless steel food bowl during mealtime.

Purr-fect Placement

Place cat bowls in calm, quiet locations away from high-traffic areas. Also, place food and water bowls apart in separate locations.

Daily Care Instructions

Dishwasher Safe

Our stainless steel cat bowl is durable and can be placed on either dishwasher rack, just like your own dishes.

Easy to Wash by Hand

Wash by hand with warm water, dish soap, and a soft sponge. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.

Pro Tip: Keep extra bowls on hand, so your cats can always have a clean bowl while others are in the dishwasher. Here's a link to order more bowls.

Troubleshooting: Understanding Salt & Mineral Deposits

Don't panic if you notice chalky rings or orange spots on your stainless steel cat bowl. These marks are NOT rust. They are harmless salt or mineral deposits.

What Causes These Stains?

Depending on the tap water in your home, as well as your cats' food, salt or mineral stains can occur. You may see similar marks on your pots and pans. It's completely normal!

These Stains are Harmless

  • These stains are not a defect in the bowl
  • They are NOT rust
  • They don't affect the safety or quality of your bowls
  • They can be removed if desired

How to Remove Salt or Mineral Deposits

Once these stains set in, they won't come off with dish soap. If you want to remove them for cosmetic reasons, we recommend Bar Keepers Friend

It contains oxalic acid, a naturally derived, weak acid, and is NSF-approved for use on food contact surfaces. It is also nonabrasive.

Simply apply the paste using a soft sponge or cloth, rub in a circular motion, and rinse with warm water.

Your stainless steel will look like new in under a minute!

What to Avoid

To keep your stainless steel cat bowl in purr-fect condition, avoid:

  • Steel wool which will scratch the surface
  • Abrasive cleaners or sponges which can damage the finish
  • Metal utensils which may cause metal-on-metal scratching
